.r. stone is following the story and joins us with more. >> reporter: pam, the fbi is in the early stages of this dig. what they're doing now is more preliminarysetting up a 40 foot work area for crews to safely work in. we're talking about a well that is pretty deep so they want to make sure their site is safe. this is new video into our newsroom in the last hour. you can see all of the experts there on the ground.this is something we did not see monday and most of the day tuesday. they are starting to go through that dirt. those with the fbi say the well is so small it's hard to see. they've cleared this area around it. a number of backhoes are also being used. they aren't actually digging into the well. they are digging at the areas around the abandoned well. crews who are out there are going to be hand sifting through the actual well. one that is 5 feet in diameter. this is a 50 foot deep wellsomething that is going to keep them busy for at least two weeks. those with the fbi tell me that they are down 10 feet so far. this is an operational area.in the next day or two they will start

and oil and rigged containers to explode. james holmes' apartment is at the top and according to an fbi bob technician, he said that holmes told him that he took a boom box and remote control car and placed it outside of a garage car. he said there was a cd that he made. the first 40 minutes was silent to timed out to start playing very loud music. holmes hoped that somebody would come over to that trash bag and then see the remote control car and start playing with it. except that remote control was was not triggered to move the car. it was triggered to set off a device inside the apartment and that would trigger a much larger explosion. according to the fbi bomb technician, james holmes planned to have his apartment explode to distract and overwhelm first responders and he would walk into the theater a few miles away and start shooting. it's the kind of elaborate diabolical plot that seems to work for villains in a batman movie but in real life this diabolical part of the plan didn't work. and, wolf, investigators also testified today that in the month leading up to the shooting james

been recovered but it has been a very busy week. this is how it all happened according to the fbi. they would be searching an abandoned well associated with the speed freak killers. this 10 x 13 area was cleared. wednesday, they announced that they were going to go into 75 ft. in the ground. late thursday, they announced that they hit the bottom and thatthis year, the f.b.i has taken over the case. and is day five of this search and there is still lots of work to be done pam when it comes to looking for victims of these guys.the speed freak killers. at this point no human remains have been recovered but it has been a busy week. >> pam: a second person has now been sentenced in a richmond gang- rape case which made national headlines. ari morales - who was sixteen at the time of the crime - will spend 27 -years behind bars. police say, morales, along with five others, sexually assualted a teen girl outside a homecoming dance back in 2009. four other suspects have yet to stand trial. morales accepted a shorter sentence in exchange for a guilty plea. >> pam: several people were taken
